Where to Stay in Insadong

For a first stay in Insadong, start with Nine Tree by Parnas Seoul Insadong. Its location on Insadong-gil, near Anguk Station, puts the neighborhood you came to see close to your hotel. If most of your days are built around the palaces, galleries, and walking this part of Seoul, that location does a lot of the work for you.

If room space or apartment facilities matter more than being close to Anguk, the answer changes. Sunbee offers more room in its standard double, while Orakai and Somerset Palace have apartments with kitchens and in-room laundry. Those differences matter more when you are sharing with children, unpacking for several days, or spending part of the evening indoors.

Insadong is worth staying in when its tea houses, craft shops, and surrounding sights are part of several days of your trip. You do not need to sleep here just to visit the main shopping street once.

A quick way to choose

Room to unpack: Look at Sunbee. Its Standard Double is 32 m², so you do not have to move up to a suite just to book that amount of space.

A bath after a day of walking: Dormy Inn EXPRESS has communal baths and a sauna. Choose it because you expect to use them; its standard rooms are compact.

Your own kitchen and washing machine: Compare Orakai with Somerset Palace. Start with the apartment that accommodates your whole party, then compare the total price for your dates.

Evenings around Jongno 3-ga and Ikseon-dong: Moxy places you close to that scene and has its own rooftop bar. It would not be our first recommendation for someone whose main concern is a quiet night.

Which part of Insadong should you stay in?

Anguk and the northern end

Anguk is the Line 3 station at this end of Insadong. This is where we would begin looking for a stay centered on the palace area and the northern part of Insadong-gil. Nine Tree’s location is particularly straightforward: the hotel gives a distance of about 230 meters from Anguk Exit 6. That is a street-level distance, not confirmation of a step-free route from the platform.

Central Insadong and the Jonggak side

Here, the choice is less about being beside one station and more about which direction you expect to walk each day. Sunbee sits between several station approaches; AMID is closer to Jonggak. A hotel can be convenient for exploring Insadong without being immediately outside a subway entrance.

Jongno 3-ga and Ikseon-dong

Jongno 3-ga serves Lines 1, 3, and 5, but the entrance nearest your hotel does not put you equally close to all three platforms. Marriott’s directions for Moxy identify different exits for each line. Allow for the walk inside the station as well as the short distance you see on the street map.

Hotels in Insadong

Nine Tree by Parnas Seoul Insadong

Nine Tree keeps the choice straightforward when you want a conventional hotel on Insadong-gil. Anguk is the nearest station, and the hotel’s position favors days spent around Insadong and the palace area. You are choosing the location first, rather than a kitchen, a large apartment, or a hotel built around evening entertainment.

For three adults who each want their own bed, the Standard Triple is the room to look at. It has three single beds, accommodates three people, and measures 24.5 m². That solves the sleeping arrangement, though it is still a shared hotel room rather than a spacious suite.

Paid self-service laundry is available. For a sightseeing stay where you only need to wash clothes occasionally, that may be enough; you do not necessarily need to book an apartment with its own machine.

Hotel Sunbee Insadong

A Standard Double at Sunbee is 32 m². Even for two people, that extra floor space matters when you are staying several nights with large luggage. Couples who dislike spending several nights stepping around their luggage should look here before assuming they need a larger room category elsewhere.

Families need to pay closer attention to the room name. The 39 m² Deluxe KOR Double (Family) accommodates up to four, but combines a large double bed with Korean-style floor bedding. It is not a room with four conventional beds. For anyone unwilling to sleep on the floor, that arrangement rules it out regardless of how appealing the room size looks.

Sunbee also provides a free shared laundry room with a washer, dryer, and detergent. The station walk is longer than at Nine Tree: the hotel estimates about seven minutes from Anguk or Jonggak and eight from its specified Jongno 3-ga exit. We would choose it for the room and laundry facilities, accepting that walk rather than describing it as a station-doorstep hotel.

AMID Hotel Seoul

AMID is the hotel to compare when you would rather approach Insadong from Jonggak than Anguk. Its address on Insadong 5-gil places it on the Jonggak side of the neighborhood, giving you another conventional hotel option without shifting your stay away from Insadong.

It also deserves a look for three adults traveling together. The Standard Triple and Deluxe Triple listings checked for this guide both specify three single beds and a maximum of three guests. Compare those exact room categories with Nine Tree’s Standard Triple, including cancellation terms and the total charge for three people.

Do not choose a room on the strength of the word “Deluxe” alone. Look at the photographs and layout for the category you are actually booking. AMID is more convincing when the Jonggak side of Insadong or three separate beds matters to your trip; do not assume every room is unusually large.

Dormy Inn EXPRESS Seoul Insadong

At Dormy Inn, the bath is part of the stay. The hotel has separate men’s and women’s communal bathing areas with hot baths, cold baths, and a dry sauna. The baths are scheduled to open from 3 p.m. until 10 a.m. the next morning, while the sauna closes between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

The space you sleep in is more limited. Standard Double and Standard Twin rooms are 16 m². The trade is simple: the standard rooms are small, but you get the bath and sauna that make Dormy different from the other hotels here. Travelers with two large cases who want to leave both open should compare larger rooms elsewhere first.

There is also a shared washing and drying area. That supports a longer trip, but it should not be confused with having laundry equipment inside your room.

Moxy Seoul Insadong

Moxy fits nights that end around Jongno 3-ga or Ikseon-dong: dinner, drinks, then a short walk back. The hotel is beside the Jongno 3-ga and Ikseon-dong area, with a rooftop bar and communal spaces of its own. Travelers who enjoy that evening setting have a clearer reason to stay here than someone simply looking for a quiet room near a palace.

Standard rooms are 20 m²; larger family and suite categories also exist. Look at the category attached to your rate rather than letting a photograph of a large suite set your expectations for the basic room.

Street noise needs to be part of the decision. A recent guest account describes hearing people outside at night, although that does not establish that every room has the same experience. For a light sleeper, we would start with other options. A request for a higher floor or a room away from the busiest street is a request, not a promise of silence.

Apartments with a kitchen and in-room laundry

A separate bedroom can matter more than a longer facilities list. When one person goes to sleep early and another wants to sit up, a living room changes how you share the accommodation.

Orakai and Somerset Palace are worth comparing on that basis. Both offer apartment accommodation with cooking and laundry facilities; the next question is which exact unit fits your group.

Orakai Insadong Suites

Orakai gives you separate living, kitchen, and bedroom areas, along with a washing machine with a dryer function. Its kitchens include equipment such as a refrigerator, microwave, cooking appliances, and a dishwasher. You can plan breakfast in the apartment and do laundry without taking everything to a shared hotel facility.

For a family or group that expects to eat breakfast in the apartment, do laundry mid-trip, or spend some evenings inside, that extra living space can matter. For two people who expect to leave after breakfast and return only to sleep, a conventional hotel may meet the need without paying for living space they barely use.

Before reserving, settle who will sleep in each bed. A “two-bedroom” description tells you how many bedrooms there are; it does not, by itself, establish the allowed party size or guarantee a bed for every person. Get the precise bed configuration, occupancy limit, and any extra-person charges for the apartment being sold.

Then compare the complete apartment price with the hotel rooms your group would otherwise need.

Somerset Palace Seoul

Somerset is not only for a large family. Its 29 m² Studio Executive and one-bedroom apartment categories give solo travelers and couples a way to book cooking and in-room laundry facilities without taking a multi-bedroom unit.

For a larger party, the 80 m² Two-Bedroom Executive needs a closer reading. The property lists a maximum of four guests, with triple occupancy as the base and the fourth person chargeable. Enter everyone in the booking rather than treating “sleeps four” as confirmation that four people are included in the displayed price.

The rooftop outdoor pool is seasonal. Do not book a winter stay on the assumption that it will provide somewhere to swim. In winter, ignore the pool when comparing options; the kitchen, laundry, and apartment layout are what still matter year-round.

Getting to your hotel from Incheon Airport

With a large suitcase, start by looking at the airport bus stop nearest your hotel rather than assuming the airport railway will leave you closest to the door.

Bus 6011 serves Anguk Station. Bus 6002 serves Jongno 1-ga, Jongno 2-ga, and Jongno 3-ga. Which one to take depends on the hotel’s position and the walk remaining after you get off. These are different arrival options, not interchangeable “buses to Insadong.”

For the Jonggak side, one rail option is AREX to Seoul Station, followed by Line 1 to Jonggak. Sunbee includes this route in its arrival directions. It involves a transfer and a final walk, so compare the whole journey rather than the airport-train portion alone.

Before traveling, save the hotel’s Korean name and street address, identify your arrival stop, and look at the last section of the route. With children, several bags, or limited walking tolerance, that final section deserves as much attention as the journey from the airport.

Before you pay

Put every adult and child, with the correct ages, into the reservation before comparing prices. Save the exact room name, bed configuration, included meals, cancellation deadline, and final total.

The details can change the choice. Sunbee’s four-person family room includes floor bedding, while Somerset’s Two-Bedroom Executive lists a charge for the fourth guest. Neither fact is apparent from a general “family-friendly” label.

When a room description leaves a material question unanswered, resolve that question before choosing a non-refundable rate. For a shared room, “Where will everyone sleep?” should have a specific answer.

Frequently asked questions

Can four adults stay together in a family room?

Sometimes, but the room name alone is not enough. You need a category that accepts four adults and a sleeping arrangement everyone accepts. Sunbee’s family room, for example, uses a double bed and floor bedding; it should not be booked on the assumption that all four guests will have conventional beds.

Do I need an apartment for a week-long stay?

Not necessarily. A conventional hotel with self-service laundry may be enough; Sunbee provides a free shared washer and dryer. An apartment becomes more compelling when you also expect to cook or need separate living and sleeping spaces. Decide around those needs rather than a fixed number of nights.

Does “near the subway” mean an easy arrival with luggage?

No. The advertised walk may begin at a particular street exit, not at the platform or the elevator you need. Moxy’s own directions distinguish between exits for the three lines at Jongno 3-ga. Check the route for the line you will actually use and identify a suitable station entrance before arrival.

Can I check in late at night?

Arrange it with the hotel rather than assuming a reservation alone covers any arrival time. Dormy Inn EXPRESS specifically asks guests arriving after 10 p.m. to contact the property in advance and warns that an unnotified late arrival may be treated as a cancellation. This is a notification requirement, not a statement that check-in after 10 p.m. is impossible.
